Nigel Jackett, PhD Candidate

Nigel has been involved in threatened species conservation projects since 2002, when he conducted on-ground management activities for the recovery of Brush-tailed Rock-wallabies.

Over the last decade he has been based in Western Australia, where he has focused on a range of threatened fauna monitoring projects, including research of migratory shorebirds in north-west Australia that has led to his participation in studies in China’s Yellow Sea.

Nigel has a particular interest in nocturnal birds. He has worked on threatened owls in western Canada, and in 2017 was one of the group that made the first confirmed sighting of a Night Parrot in Western Australia for more than a century. Nigel joined the lab in 2019 to commence a PhD on the poorly known Northern Masked Owl of Australia’s tropical woodlands.
