Patrick started his studies at the University of Queensland where he completed his undergraduate degree in Wildlife Science. Following this he completed an honours degree in the ecology of Black-breasted Button-quail and is currently part way through a PhD on the ecology of tropical savanna button-quail with a particular focus on the enigmatic Buff-breasted Button-quail.

Though Pat has always had a deep interest in all manner of birds and their ecology, the past few years have seen this interest focused solely on the button-quail group. Separate from his PhD studies, Pat is currently working on various button-quail related projects, mostly concerning the threatened Black-breasted Button-quail in South East Queensland.
