Chris MacColl, PhD Candidate

After spending a few years tying steel and pouring slabs for his uncle’s concreting business, Chris pursued university education and received his Bachelor of Environmental Science in 2011. He then spent 8 years as a generalist environmental scientist focused primarily on land management and restoration whilst slowly making inroads towards his true passion – wildlife research and conservation.

This involved applied research projects on the Palm Cockatoo, Northern Quoll, and Black-footed Tree-rat on Cape York Peninsula. Now pursuing his doctorate on the Red Goshawk, Chris hopes to build his skills and ultimately make a career out of researching and conserving birds of prey (though time will tell if restricting one’s expertise to a single group of birds is a good idea!).
