Dr Steve Murphy, Senior Research Fellow

Steve has worked in conservation for 25 years, sometimes as conservation manager while at other times as researcher. He has published on a wide range of species and topics, including endangered parrots, passerines, bats, small mammals, dingoes, feral cats, cetaceans, avian disease, molecular ecology and fire ecology.

In addition to supervising post-grads, he currently runs a project that aims to restore the habitats of the endangered golden-shouldered parrot.

Steve also has joint responsibility for delivering a NESP project in western QLD looking at the spatial ecology of feral cats to improve management of that especially acute threat. Steve is a member of the Night Parrot Recovery Team and Golden-shouldered Parrot Recovery Team, which is Australia’s first Indigenous led recovery team.
