Patrick started his studies at the University of Queensland where he completed his undergraduate degree in Wildlife Science. Following this he completed an honours degree in the ecology of Black-breasted Button-quail and has since completed a PhD on the ecology of tropical savanna button-quail, with a particular focus on the enigmatic Buff-breasted Button-quail.

Pat continues to work on various button-quail related projects, mostly concerning the threatened Black-breasted Button-quail in South East Queensland, but is also engaged in conservation initiatives to recover the Golden-shouldered Parrot on Cape York Peninsula.
